A Shared Platform for Scaling All Carbon Removal Pathways
The Carbon Business Council is launching dedicated support for a range of carbon removal pathways to scale the field as a coordinated whole.
To realize its full economic and environmental benefits, carbon removal must scale rapidly — and across every viable pathway. The field is advancing across land, air, rock and water, but to reach gigaton removals requires stronger coordination, shared infrastructure, and deeper collaboration across the ecosystem.
Today, the Carbon Business Council (CO2BC) is announcing new dedicated spaces within the coalition to support and connect communities focused on specific carbon removal pathways. This effort is designed to accelerate progress within each approach while strengthening the carbon removal field as a unified whole. By serving as an ecosystem connector, we aim to foster greater alignment, visibility, and momentum — enabling the sector to grow together.
CO2BC remains a “horizontal” coalition, bringing together members from every major carbon management pathway to create a level playing field for carbon removal to innovate and advance. The sector recognizes that no single pathway can achieve multi-gigaton annual scale by mid-century. Reaching this objective will require a full portfolio of solutions.
The diversity of carbon removal approaches is one of the sector’s greatest strengths, and taking a method-neutral approach helps to collectively scale the field. As CO2BC continues to advance the broader field of carbon removal, we also recognize the dedicated and unique support that each pathway requires to reach its full potential.
To meet that need, we are formalizing a series of pathway-specific initiatives within CO2BC — dedicated communities focused on supporting specific carbon removal approaches. These initiatives will drive focused collaboration, tailored resources, and targeted policy engagement, while staying connected through the shared coalition.
With over 100 member companies representing every major carbon removal approach, CO2BC is uniquely positioned to lead this effort. Our organization brings together technical expertise, early-stage innovation, and corporate leadership. We operate across sectors and geographies and are deeply engaged in global policy conversations shaping the future of carbon markets, climate finance, and carbon removal.
By connecting pathway-specific groups within one ecosystem, we can also unlock greater shared learning. Each method of carbon removal offers insights that can inform others — from policy and measurement practices to deployment models and community engagement. By building bridges across approaches, we can surface new ideas, accelerate innovation, and grow public understanding of carbon removal.
“Formalizing pathway-specific verticals within our horizontal coalition model is about building momentum across the full carbon removal landscape,” said Ben Rubin, Executive Director of CO2BC. “We’re working to provide the unique support that each pathway needs to scale, while connecting them in ways that help the entire field move forward with clarity, credibility, and speed.”
In the weeks ahead, we’ll begin formally announcing the first wave of pathway-specific initiatives housed within CO2BC. Each will bring deep expertise and a focused community into our shared ecosystem, helping accelerate climate progress through a more connected, coordinated and specialized carbon removal field. Our coalition’s commitment to method-neutral policy remains central as we build toward making a gigaton-scale impact.
